The film festival is open to Midwest high school/middle school students.

Cincinnati, OH [December 3, 2018] The Underground Academy of Cinematic Arts is proud to announce the 10th annual Golden Lion Awards High School Film Festival on April 27-28, 2019. The festival is currently seeking submissions and is open to Midwest high school/middle school students residing in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin as well as areas within 500 miles of Cincinnati. Students can submit films through March 15, 2019.

The Golden Lion Awards High School Film Festival is the only non-profit, youth focused, regional event of its kind in the country. The film festival provides opportunities for young filmmakers to meet, improve skills, and learn from industry professionals. The weekend of the film festival, accepted films will screen on Saturday, April 27 at the Esquire Theatre. Throughout the day, college workshops and master classes will be offered in and around OTR. On Sunday, April 28, award-winning films from all 14 categories will screen at Memorial Hall during the awards ceremony, which includes a catered reception, musical performances, and college fair.

In its 10th year, the Golden Lion Awards continues to make an impact on students’ lives. “As a young writer, filmmaker, artist, the most meaningful thing to you is affirmation. Just hearing from someone else that what you have to say is important and that there is a future ahead of you in the arts is akin to being told that you have a voice at all. I am where I am today because in high school I was told—through the Golden Lion Awards and through various kind teachers—that my words deserved an audience. As a Golden Lion judge and as an aspiring TV writer working to empower women and minorities in the industry, I know just how powerful one pat on the back can be. When I won the Golden Lion Awards for best Scriptwriting with my friend, it really confirmed for me that my stories could be powerful and impactful to an audience,” said 2015 Walnut Hills graduate and USC BFA Writing for Film & Screen major, Zoe Cheng.
