Atrium Medical Center offers advanced diagnostic imaging with new 128-Slice CT scanner

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (January 2, 2018): Atrium Medical Center, a member of Premier Health, is pleased to announce the addition of a new advanced diagnostic imaging computed tomography (CT) system, the Siemens SOMATOM® Definition Edge scanner with the innovative FAST CARE software platform. This CT technology is enabling physicians at Atrium Medical Center to obtain high definition images of the body at a lower dose of radiation for a wide range of clinical applications.

“Our newest CT scanner is faster, which can reduce motion blurriness and lead to higher quality images. This also allows you to scan the area you’re interested in seeing in a shorter amount of time with a lower dose of radiation, a benefit to our patients,” said John Weske, M.D., medical director of Medical Imaging for Atrium Medical Center.

Computed tomography, also known as CT or CAT scan, is an imaging method that uses special X-ray equipment to obtain cross-sectional pictures of the body. The CT computer displays these pictures as detailed images of organs, bones and other tissues. This type of imaging can be helpful in diagnosing injuries or fractures or in identifying disease in its earliest stages. Images of all body regions are possible and detection of small diagnostic details can be found by using information obtained 128 images at a time.

The technology couples multiple components in a dynamic manner including a large-volume coverage area, a larger gantry bore and the ability to use a high-capacity table for examining patients of all sizes up to 660 pounds.

Atrium Medical Center’s 128-slice CT scanner will be used for cardiology (such as CTA coronary studies and calcium scoring); neurology (spine); oncology (all body parts); vascular; and other general CT studies.

“This upgrade to new medical imaging equipment joins recent announcements by Atrium Medical Center -- such as the openings of the Senior Emergency Center and Natural Beginnings Birth Center -- demonstrating our investment in services and capabilities to better serve the health needs of Butler and Warren counties,” said Rhonda Seidenschmidt, vice president of operations of Atrium, who oversees medical imaging services.

Atrium Medical Center serves Butler, Warren and surrounding counties from its main campus conveniently located along the Interstate 75 corridor at exit 32, One Medical Center Drive in Middletown, between Cincinnati and Dayton. The full-service hospital and Level III Emergency Trauma Center employs approximately 1,500 people in full-time, part-time and on-call positions. Other facilities operated by Atrium include Atrium Health Center Trenton and Atrium Health Center Mason.
