Date: September 9, 2015
Time: 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM EDT
Event Description:
Guest speaker Dr. John E. Bodnar talks about how encounters with mass violence produce both horrible ruptures in people?s lives and extraordinary efforts to heal them. This talk will look at the trauma and pain caused by the 9/11 attacks and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, particularly as it has been revealed in countless memoirs. It will highlight the resulting tension between witnesses who insist that their tragic losses not be forgotten and massive political projects to erase personal suffering through patriotic narratives and memorials.
