Event Description:

The UG Academy of Cinematic Arts (UGACA) offers semester courses in Film Studies, Film Production, and Broadcast Journalism for teens 14-19. Students can apply for art credit through the state of Ohio.

Our Cinematic Arts program enables teens to:

  • Interact within a social community of like-minded peers who share their passion for watching and making films.
  • Get into industry with or without college prep.
  • Get into and succeed at the top university film schools around the country through college prep and academic counseling.
  • Build a professional-level film reel to help accomplish their goals.Be competitive in film festivals around the region and country.
 

2019 Fall Courses

Cinema History and Movements: Sept 4 – Nov 25

Mondays and Wednesdays
Cost: $495

Modeled on university film school curriculum and incorporating “production projects” where students re-create classic filmmaking techniques, this course covers the origins of cinema in the 1890s to current trends in digital media and streaming to provide future film scholars and aspiring filmmakers with historical context and understanding of the motion pictures as the most powerful communication form of the 21st century.  

 

Introduction to Film Production: Sept 10 – Nov 21

Tuesdays and Thursdays
Cost: $495

This course focuses on visual storytelling, providing aspiring filmmakers with skills to interpret and produce films that involve a three-act story structure. Students learn to write scripts, storyboard, film, direct, and edit while exploring the use of composition, camera angles, and shots to produce music videos, film essays, and short narrative films.

2020 Spring Courses

Screenwriting Mechanics and Workshop
Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30 – 5:30
Cost: $495

Broken into two parts that can be taken separately or together, the screenwriting course starts with elements, techniques and tips of screenwriting, focusing on story-idea development and narrative structure as part of the mechanics for writing a film script. Part two is a hands-on interactive workshop for students who are interested in applying the techniques from part one in writing their own screenplay in the course with the opportunity to present it, get feedback and revise it as part of class.
 

Award Recognition
